What's Happening in Medina This Week, July 20–26

This is a quieter week after the Arts Week festivities, but there's still plenty to do around Medina County. The big highlights are the Transportation in America Car Show on Saturday (part of the city's America 250 celebration) and the Drum Corps International competition in Barberton on Sunday evening. Wednesday, July 22

S'more Nature: Dragonflies and Damselflies at Oenslager Nature Center

The Medina County Park District hosts a fun evening program at Oenslager Nature Center where you can learn about dragonflies and damselflies while enjoying a classic summer snack. Park staff lead a short walk to ponds and wetlands to observe these fascinating insects up close, followed by s'mores around the fire. Great for families with kids of all ages.

Ladies Night Out on Medina Public Square

Main Street Medina hosts Ladies Night Out on the historic Public Square. The shops and boutiques around the Square stay open late with specials, refreshments, and giveaways. It's a great excuse to enjoy a summer evening downtown, grab dinner at one of the nearby restaurants, and support local businesses.

Tales for Tots at River Styx Park

Young children and their caregivers are invited to River Styx Park for a morning of stories, activities, and outdoor exploration. This week's theme explores ants and other small creatures through books and hands-on play. Part of the Medina County Park District's regular children's programming.

Bookmobile at Shotwell Gardens, Lake Medina

The Medina County District Library Bookmobile visits Shotwell Gardens at Lake Medina from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Sign up for a library card, join the Summer Reading Celebration, and enjoy Family Story Time. It's a lovely setting right by the gardens. Bring a blanket and stay for a while.

Live Music Around Medina County

Friday evenings are prime time for live music around Medina. Check out the rotating lineups at:

• Medina Brewing Company: craft beer and rotating live acts on the patio
• Das Weinhaus: German fare and live entertainment
• McGinty's Pub: traditional Irish pub atmosphere with weekend music

Transportation in America Car Show

Part of the City of Medina's America 250 celebration, the Transportation in America Car Show takes over the Medina County Administration Building parking lot from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Bring your vintage, classic, or custom vehicle or just come to browse. It's a family-friendly, free event that celebrates American automotive history right in the heart of Medina.

Medina Square Farmers Market: Christmas in July

The award-winning Medina Square Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM through October with 70+ vendors. This week's theme is Christmas in July, expect some festive surprises alongside the usual fresh produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, honey, and artisan crafts. It's the heart of Medina on a summer Saturday morning.

Farmers Market of Medina

If you're looking for another option, the Farmers Market of Medina runs Saturday mornings 9:00 AM to noon at Cornerstone Chapel on Granger Road. It's a smaller, more intimate market with locally grown produce and artisan goods, and it runs through mid-November, so this one sticks around well into the fall.

DCI: Drum Corps International in Norton, Ohio

This is a big one for music and marching arts fans. Drum Corps International brings its summer tour to Norton High School Stadium for an evening of world-class competitive marching performances. Top drum corps from across the country perform precision drill and live brass and percussion. It's a spectacle you have to see in person. The show starts at 7:00 PM.

Summer Native Plant Sale at Medina County Parks

The Medina County Park District holds a pop-up native plant sale from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Pick up native Ohio plants for your garden or landscape. They're adapted to our climate, great for pollinators, and much lower maintenance than non-natives. Proceeds support the park district's conservation work.

Summit County Fair, July 28 through August 2

The 175th Summit County Fair kicks off Tuesday, July 28 at the Summit County Fairgrounds in Tallmadge. This is one of the biggest events of the summer in the region: midway rides, livestock auctions, grandstand entertainment, fair food, beauty pageants, home-canned goods contests, and more. Hours are noon–11:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday and noon–9:00 PM on Sunday. It's about a 20-minute drive from Medina and well worth the trip.

Around Town This Week

New playground at Buckeye Woods Park. The park district opened a brand-new playground near the ballfields at Buckeye Woods Park in Medina. If you have kids, it's a fun new spot to check out on a summer afternoon, and it ties in nicely with a walk on the park's trails.

Road work note: W. Union Street between N. Elmwood Ave and N. Court St remains closed through July 24 for construction. Plan your downtown routes accordingly through the end of this week.
