The post-Labor-Day lull never really happens around here. Instead, this week Northeast Ohio leans hard into live music, with five nights of major shows at Blossom Music Center and the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival lighting up downtown Akron. At the same time the pace at home slows into that comfortable fall rhythm: Saturday farmers markets with the first of the season's apples and mums, a two-day gun show at the Medina County Fairgrounds, a free concert out in Seville, and the start of the park district's beloved self-guided hiking program. Let's get into it.

A Quiet Day for Trails and Town
Tuesday is a good day to ease back into the routine after the long weekend. The Medina Square farmers market has wrapped for the morning, and the week's big gatherings are still a couple of days out. If you have the day free, this is a lovely stretch to enjoy the Public Square shops and restaurants without the weekend crowds, or to get out for a walk on one of the Medina County Park District trails (more on those below). Many downtown breakfast and lunch spots around the square are at their calmest on a Tuesday.

Around Town This Week
Fall hiking programs get going. September 1 kicked off two of the season's beloved self-guided hiking challenges. The Medina County Park District's 20th annual Trekking Through Autumn runs now through November 30: complete at least eight designated hikes at your own pace to earn an award. Meanwhile, Cuyahoga Valley National Park's Fall Hiking Spree is underway, a hike-and-stamp program that rewards exploring the park's 125+ miles of trails through the season. Both are free to begin and a wonderful way to get the family outdoors as the weather cools. Visit medinacountyparks.com to learn more.
A scenic fall train ride. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad keeps running its National Park Scenic round trips through the valley this month, with weekend departures from the Peninsula Depot and Rockside Station. As the leaves just begin to turn, a ride down the valley is a relaxing, family-friendly way to see the park from a different angle. Check cvsr.org for the schedule.
Medina sports history exhibit. The new Medina Sports History Exhibit keeps running through September 30 at the Medina Recreation Center Community Room (855 Weymouth Rd), part of the America 250 celebration. If you have not stopped in yet, it is free and open weekdays and weekends, telling the story of the athletes and teams that shaped Medina County.
Lake Medina trail note. Remember the Upper Trail at Lake Medina closes Thursday, September 10 through October 3 for construction. The rest of the loop stays open, but check medinacountyparks.com before you head out so there are no surprises.
Blossom parking tips. With five concerts this week, Blossom nights will be busy. Arrive early for the big country and hip-hop shows, bring a layer for the evening chill, and remember the lawn is first-come, first-served. Carpool if you can. It is also a good week to plan ahead: tickets for the later September shows, including Pitbull on the 16th and Bryson Tiller on the 25th, are selling for the season's final stretch.
